Actually I was driving around the farms for a week looking for an opportunity and the right conditions. This worked out very well because of the light mostly.
I find foggy conditions offer incredible light & color, providing you have sufficient light for your subject. I didn’t notice the fog in the background until you told me. Good shot!
You’re welcome Leya. Living in the heart of Amish country I didn’t even imagine that someone might not realize that. 🙂 Its hard to remember what I thought when I first moved here and saw all the buggies and horses.
Even if there are many informative films about them, I guess we don’t see them often enough to get the details on the spot. When I was young I was fascinated by them, and some really good movies are staged in Amish country as well.
He’s about to say “Giddy-up” or “Mush” or some such. Notice how all the horses have one ear turned towards him waiting for instructions. This is real team work.
He might have said Dabber Schpring! which in Pennsylvania Dutch means run quickly. In the first couple of shots there was a German Shepard along with them so it really was a team effort. Thanks Mike.
Wow. Great photograph. ::thumbsup::

Thanks John, I’m pretty happy with it. I was planning on getting an interesting shot of the fog and saw this kid trying to fix his wheel.

Thanks Sandy. There was some serious fog that was just breaking as I pulled over so I used Cloudy white balance in post processing.

Believe it or not I was facing the sun, fortunately my camera knew what to do. Its like the horse that knows the way.

Thanks Leya, I’m not sure exactly what he was doing but since the Amish don’t have video games he needed something to keep him out of trouble. 🙂

I used to watch a TV series called The Amish Mafia filmed here in Lancaster County. It was completely ridiculous.
